A JOURNEY FROM HOPELESSNESS TO HOPE
My name is Chitalu Principal Mwewa. I am the last born in the family of 12.Curently we are six, three males and three females. My mother’s name is Chelu Elise while my father’s name was Mwewa John Kalombo (He is late). As a family we were raised in a small village called Lambwe Chomba of Chiengi District of Luapula Province of Zambia.

It was from this village where I was born and bred. The village boarders with Democratic Republic of Congo at an approximation of about 1000 meters. It is sad to mention that it was the 1998 to 1999 war which was in Congo that left our House burnt to ashes. This made our family to shift from Lambwe Chomba to Kaputa which is about 13 kilometres from Lambwe Chomba.

As a young boy I was trained in various ways which includes farm work, carpentry, bricklaying and livestock keeping among others. With this kind of experience life continued until when I lost my elder sister, my father and elder bother consecutively. The passing away of these people left a lot of scars to the family as they were not only pillars of the family but they were also life inspire.

With the passing on of these people I was transferred from one school to another until I saw myself completing school at Mwense High School which is near Mansa Town in Luapula province.

After completing school I involved myself in a number of activities just to raise the money for my tertiary education. In order to make my dream come true, I used to rare animals, do gardening and seasonal farming (ground-nuts, maize and cassava). After harvesting I used to sale the goods to Kitwe. It was the money which came from the above mentioned sources that pushed me into college.

On the other hand I used to help my brother to manage his rice mill when not doing my work so as to make him help me with financial support. The following pictures show such times when I was struggling to generate money for the college:
In conclusion, I would like to thank you the school Management for having helped me so that I can be part of the students being sponsored by Mwanamwenge foundation. I would also like to thank you the Mwanamwenge foundation for coming on board in supporting the under privileged persons like me who may have the desire to doing great things in society but due to lack of sponsors we continue sinking in the sea of poverty. As for me, you have not only relieved my family from the burden of struggling to pay for my school fees but you have also quickened my journey from hopelessness to hope.

Thank you so very much, may the good Lord bless you abundantly for working tirelessly day in day out in trying to improve the lives of people like me.
